Interpreting Consolidated’s primary objective is to enhance the quality of American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation available to hearing and Deaf people. To help us all get there, we produce high quality DVDs and books for people working to improve their ASL and/or interpretation skills and for those who teach these skills to others.
There is a growing need for research-based written and visual materials to help serious students of ASL, in all stages of their careers. Our DVD on the use of classifiers in ASL is one such resource. It is widely used in the United States, Canada and other countries. Users report that the product has helped them to improve their ASL comprehension and to integrate the uniquely expressive features of ASL into their signing. A newly released DVD on the use of numbers in ASL follows the same format.
We also offer two books specifically designed for those who want to go beyond ASL fluency and take on the challenges of English-to-ASL and ASL-to-Englishinterpretation. Based on unique research into the major features of successful interpretations, these books offer a road map of skill development for interpreting students, interpreter educators, and practitioners. They are also an important resource for people involved in assessing the skill levels of interpreters for education, employment, accreditation or self-improvement purposes. In addition, we are proud to distribute a biography by Canadian author, Patricia Conrad, Gentle into the Darkness: A Deaf Mother’s Journey into Alzheimer’s.
